Client challenge
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is the process of creating a virtual data set of a facility before it's built. BIM Level 2 certification shows that a company has a collaborative method of working during briefing, concept, design and construction phases. It also ensures that all parties can access and use design information, from a common dataset.
Royal HaskoningDHV began its BIM Level 2 journey with a goal: Save time, money and resources in their work, enabling them to provide a superior service to their clients with better outcomes. "We needed to improve our project outcomes via closer collaboration internally and externally," said Casey Rutland, UK Director of Digital for Royal HaskoningDHV.
In addition to the targeted efficiency savings, working within a BIM process opens avenues for further Royal HaskoningDHV digital services. Gaining BIM certification also makes sure the consultancy is in line with the UK government's policy of being 'BIM Ready' if they wish to work on centrally procured construction projects.
LRQA's ability to efficiently mobilise resources and subject- matter experts presented better opportunities for developing further areas of collaboration.
How LRQA and Hill International worked together
LRQA was among three tier-1 global consultants that Hill consulted with during the selection of the certification company for their BIM certification. What differentiated LRQA was the ability to efficiently mobilize resources (subject matter experts) from different geographical locations (UAE, Singapore, UK) to explain the process and the possibilities that they have as PMC to achieve the BIM certification. This, combined with timely responses to Hill’s queries, gave them confidence that LRQA would be able to support their global operations during the initial certification process and throughout the follow-up certification activities.
Impact of ISO 19650 Certification
The formal recognition of BIM capabilities that the ISO certification provides to Hill International:
-
It allows them to better showcase Hill’s expertise and promote their services to clients.
-
It ensures better consolidation and accumulation of knowledge across Hill’s global operations.
-
ISO 19650’s structured framework for continual improvement secures a leading position among the competition as a top-tier BIM management consultancy firm.
Amine Tayeg, Regional Quality and Management Systems Director at Hill International says, the implementation of the ISO 19650 certification provides additional assurance that potential inconsistencies in the services delivered by our teams across our global operations will be systematically addressed through our standardized processes, thus ensuring improved performance and effective delivery of our services.
