The revision of ISO 9001 has reached a significant milestone, with ISO confirming that the Draft International Standard (DIS) will be registered and move into a 12-week ballot period.
While the exact start date of the ballot is yet to be confirmed, this development signals meaningful progress toward the first major update to the world’s most widely used quality management standard since 2015.
ISO 9001 is used by over one million organisations globally to drive quality, customer satisfaction and continual improvement. The proposed changes are expected to reflect emerging priorities including risk-based thinking, digital transformation, sustainability and stakeholder expectations, ensuring the standard remains relevant and resilient in a changing world.
Once the revised version is published, a formal transition period will begin, allowing certified organisations time to adopt the new requirements in ISO 9001:2026.
