ISO 9001:2015 Certification Case Study: Iveco Trucks

Client challenge

Iveco Trucks Australia has produced over 230,000 truck and bus chassis since 1952. Today, our client manufactures ACCO, Powerstar, Stralis AS-L and AD/AT models and bus chassis at its plant in Dandenong, Victoria. In addition, Iveco imports its Daily light commercial range, Eurocargo and Stralis ATi models, from Iveco plants in Europe and South America. The company employs 600 people across Australia. Iveco’s investment in the Australian truck market also creates local employment for thousands more people in related industries.

Iveco wanted to be among the first few companies globally to achieve the prestigious ISO 9001:2015 certification. Following a procurement process, the company asked us to support here, as the world leading provider of professional assurance services. A swift transition to the revised standard would underpin our client’s focus on being a leader in ‘Technology, Quality and Total Cost of Ownership’. It would demonstrate Iveco’s proactive approach to improving the organisation’s quality processes. It would reinforce our client’s commitment to quality excellence through continual improvement. In short, it was business critical.

How we helped

We started by designing the recertification and transition assessment process to meet Iveco’s precise requirements. We were able to quickly understand the complexities of the organisation’s engineering and manufacturing processes, such as customisation and variation in vehicle builds, and to effectively structure the assessment plan around them.

We also delivered ISO 9001:2015 transition training for the internal audit team. This was strategically timed. The team was able to plan the company’s 2016 internal audit schedule and adjust their audit strategy to work with the revised standard.

Throughout the project, our expertise and customised approach helped focus on Iveco’s core areas, including its business objectives and the environment. We could then feed robust insight and assessment into Iveco’s systems, helping to deliver a smooth recertification and transition process.

The project was delivered to the organisation’s schedule, enabling transition to the new ISO 9001:2015 at the same time as ISO 9001:2008 certification was due.

Insight & Client feedback

The ISO 9001 standard outlines a process approach to implementing and supporting a Quality Management System (QMS). Iveco management believes that prompt transition further demonstrates the company’s robust management systems and will lead to an even better customer experience for Iveco commercial vehicle owners.

Client feedback

“Quality is at the core of everything we do, and achieving this certification confirms that as an organisation we are fully committed, across all levels, to continuing on this critical path. This is about evolving into an autonomous, process-focused and fundamentally accountable company that places increasing value on every stage of our operation.’’
