Following assessments by the UK Accreditation Service, UKAS, LRQA has been granted accreditation to deliver certification against ISO 19650-2:2018 – the international standard for Building Information Modelling (BIM).
The BIM process involves digitally constructing a facility before it is built, helping solve possible problems, analyse potential impacts, as well as improve safety. BIM enables building owners, contractors and the supply chain to access a single, integrated source of information for any built asset. It adopts a collaborative approach to data which results in improved communication through the operational life cycle.
LRQA has provided clients with BIM services for over 10 years, having launched the first BIM level 2 certification scheme on the market in 2012. Having now expanded its range with ISO 19650-2:2018 accredited services, LRQA can continue to be a leading provider for BIM services internationally.
In doing so, LRQA will help global clients mitigate risk, increase efficiency and give clients and stakeholders confidence that their organization is following best practice throughout the lifecycle of a built asset from concept to construction, operation and finally decommissioning.
Inspection Services Area Operations Manager at LRQA, Paul Karim, said:
“We are delighted to be granted UKAS accreditation for ISO 19650-2 as it gives our clients and their stakeholders greater confidence in the rigour of their certification. Information modelling is very important within the construction sector to ensure better collaboration and efficiency, so this is a big development for the industry and our clients.”
LRQA is proud of its role in developing and enhancing BIM services for the industry, having been chosen to take part in the pilot assessment programme for ISO 19650-2:2018 certification in 2020. The main aim of the program was for UKAS to confirm how applicable the relevant standards were to various organizations and identify any areas which needed further guidance and transparency.
Commenting on the pilot, Karl Miller, Service Delivery Manager – Inspection Services at LRQA said:
“This success is testament to the expertise and experience of our team – both in developing and managing LRQA’s BIM certification scheme and in ensuring we meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17065 to deliver UKAS accredited services. Accreditation sends a clear message to the market that an ISO 19650-2 certificate from LRQA means that our clients meet the highest standards for BIM and are committed to quality assurance, mitigating risks and improved safety.”
